Andrew Roberts shares his story - June 2008
Well, where to begin....I was born on my Mum's birthday, I like to think I was the best present she ever received! Both my parents are Christians, which I thank God for now as I look back. Being born into a family of Christians doesn't make you a Christian and my parents certainly never forced me to agree with their beliefs. They took me with them to Church and were always willing to share their own faith with me, but it was apparent early on that becoming a Christian had to be my own decision, it wasn't one that they had already made for me. I made that decision at the age of 7, and was baptised a few years later at 11. What seemed so clear to me as a child has stood the test of my teenage years, university and into my adult life: God loves me so much that He sent His only son to pay the price for my sin. My educational background is a science and engineering one, but I have found nothing to refute the truths I read in the Bible, God creating the world, Jesus dying to save it. For me the most wonderful truth is that although there is nothing I can do to deserve or earn God's forgiveness, He freely gives it to me when I ask.
I believe God has a plan for my life. He has blessed me with a gorgeous wife and 4 lovely children; we have faced and overcome trials as a family (which is more Vicky's testimony than my own) but I believe His plan is a spiritual one rather than a physical one. I often fall very short of the person He wants me to be, but I know He has infinite patience and love, and will never give up on me. My prayer for today is that He will show me how to be a godly husband and father...what tomorrow brings only He knows. |
